The Challenge Award Ceremony
On Wednesday 22 April the Embassy of Sweden in Sarajevo successfully hosted the award ceremony for the twelve grant winners from the final call for proposals of the Challenge. The selected companies Antigravity Music, COX 4, Domaća radinost ”Bihaćka Svijeća”, DIY, ENI-EM, Proizvodno, prometno i uslužno društvo „FAAM“ d.o.o. Vareš, IMB KOMERC, Kliker.ba, Maguba doo, MIA, MSS – Meta Software Solutions, RE:Design and Rupic Group AB were awarded grants for their innovative busin…ess ideas.
The keynote speaker of the event Ms. Mikaela Kumlin Granit, Deputy Director General for Europe at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, presented the winners with the award certificates and remarked “We really believe that more and stronger competitive businesses are key to improve the 63% unemployment rate among young people in the country. Making such businesses grow and flourish begins with you – the entrepreneurs! By supporting you and your companies we help to create jobs, increase incomes and exports; contributing to economic growth in BiH.”
The event, which took place at HUB387 in Sarajevo, was attended by approximately 60 guests. Apart from the award, the former Challenge grant winners TBA:PRO, Net Consulting and Krompir.ba presented in what way the Challenge grant has had an impact on the future growth of their businesses. Ms. Åsa Trulsson, Project officer at the Embassy of Sweden, also highlighted the practicality of the challenge fund mechanism as a tool in supporting innovative small and micro businesses in BiH. The project has received over the years 1 200 applications and 27 grantees- both from Sweden and BiH – have been selected for a grant.

The Challenge Award Ceremony for the third round winners!
An official award ceremony will be held at HUB387, Bosmal City Center (Sarajevo), on 22 April 2015 at 10.00 am. Ms. Mikaela Kumlin Granit, Deputy Director General for Europe at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs will, together with Ambassador Fredrik Schiller, present the awards. Following the event the Embassy welcomes all participants and guest for a mingle session.
Congratulations once again to all our Challenge grant winners and we warmly welcome you to the award ceremony!
The Challenge initiative is a pilot project and will therefore be evaluated during the first half of 2015. The outcome of this process determines the possible continuation of the project.

The Challenge visited the Regional Resource Center in Bugojno
The Embassy of Sweden recently visited the Regional Resource Center in Bugojno to present the Challenge Fund.
The event attracted companies from several cities in BiH, such as Donji Vakuf, Gornji Vakuf, Jajce and Lukavac.
The goal of the visit was to inform the companies that attended the event about the Challenge and encourage them to apply for the third round of proposals.

SEO employs 2 workers and enters the US market
One of our Challenge winners from the first round of proposals, SEO, recently moved into new office premises located in the center of Travnik.
The founder of the company, Nedim Sabic, has employed two additional workers that are responsible for the finance and marketing of the company. The employers previously worked as freelancers and through the Challenge grant SEO was able to offer them permanent jobs.
SEO has managed to realize one of their goals with the Challenge grant, namely to become an international player on the market. Six months into the project, SEO has become the first company from BiH to enter the US market within their field of business.

The Challenge Award Ceremony
On Tuesday 11 November the Embassy of Sweden in Sarajevo successfully hosted the award ceremony for the nine grant winners from the second call for proposals of the Challenge . The companies Agromont, Balkan Star, Krompir.ba, Net Consulting, Rubicon, Rukotvorine, SpacePrint, Tarevci and Technabit, were awarded grants for their innovative business ideas. The keynote speaker of the event Ms. Elsa Håstad, Assistant Director General of SIDA, presented the winners with the award certificates.
The approximately 80 guests that attended the event consisted of staff from the Embassy of Sweden, a high level delegation from SIDA, Challenge winners from the first and second call for proposals as well as companies which were interested in applying for a Challenge grant. Several of our former Challenge winners, such as Net-pro, TBA:PRO and Ultimax, all from the first round of proposals, were present at the event to talk about their projects and what influence the Challenge grant has had on the future development of their businesses.
The event, which took place at HUB387 in Sarajevo, was opened by the Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden, Ms. Marie Bergström. “We hope that these entrepreneurs are the future of BiH, that they will get funding for their business and that they will be part of a modern Bosnia and Herzegovina, which we support on the path towards European integration – as this is our primary goal”, states Marie Bergström.

An award ceremony will be held on 11 November 2014 where the nine Challenge winners will receive their Challenge Certificates.The ceremony will take place at 11.00 at HUB387 located at Bosmal City Center in Sarajevo. Also, some of the Challenge winners from the first round of proposals will be present to talk about their projects and progress made so far.
The Embassy of Sweden are also coming to the Regional Resource Center in Bugojno on 13 November at 14.00 to present the Challenge and there will be an opportunity to ask questions as well.

Ultimax receives their Challenge Certificate!
One of our Challenge winners from the first round of proposals, Ultimax, was not able to attend the award ceremony that took place in May due to the flooding that hit the country.
Recently we had the opportunity to surprise them during a startup conference in Banja Luka by finally handing over their Challenge Certificate!

TBA:PRO employs newly graduated psychologists.
We visited our partner TBA:PRO, one of the Challenge winners, a few weeks ago.
They had already employed new co-workers. Namely, 2 recently graduated psychologists.

The competition was even more intense than last fall, this time with 300 applications of very high quality. It has been a true please going through all the great business initiatives and for us to get an exciting insight into the BiH micro and small business sector.
We have now selected 30 companies which we will review further.

The seconds call for proposals resulted in an incredible 300 applications from micro and small companies. We are currently evaluating and scoring all applications.

We are pleased to announce that the successful Sida International Training Programmes for Private Sector Development; ”Strategic Business Management” (SBM) for business leaders, and ”Private Sector Growth Strategies” (PSGS) for high-level professionals from national institutions and organisations, will invite participants from Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2014-2015!
The programmes comprise a three week training session in Sweden, additional regional and national seminars, individual and group tutoring, as well as extensive opportunities for networking with national, regional and Swedish actors.
